Pastoral Staff

Peter Quek
Lead Pastor
Peter was raised and educated in Singapore and received his theological education in the United Kingdom and Vancouver.  He entered full-time pastoral ministry in 1981.  After two pastorates and post-graduate studies, Peter was appointed Director of Educational Initiatives in 1994 at RegentCollege, Vancouver.  From 2002 to 2009, Peter served as a pastor of a large church in Toronto.  Peter and his wife, Doreen, have been married 30 years and they have four boys.  He is a gifted leader and teacher of the Word of God.  Peter enjoys books, movies, music, and conversations on faith, culture, history and technology.  His passion is to become a lifelong apprentice, amateur and artist for Jesus.

 

Jane Megale Sidjak
Children's Minister
Jane graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education in Special Education.  She enjoyed teaching with the Calgary Board of Education until becoming a mom in 1985.  She was privileged that she could create a career as a full-time mom to James, Kevin, and Kati.  This allowed many opportunities to be involved in the school and community.

God called her into a role at WVBC that uses her gifts in a meaningful way and He is blessing her with a growing passion for the children in our church community.

 

Khim Goh
Early Childhood Coordinator
Khim is originally from Singapore where she graduated with her B.A. (honours in English) and worked as an economist in the marketplace.  She also obtained ber B. Ed from the U of A.  She and her family have been attending WVBC for almost 20 years.  Khim is committed to this church community and felt called 13 years ago to serve as Early Childhood Coordinator.  Khim and her husband, Jeffrey have two adult children, Charis and Davina, who are currently at university.

 

Neil Bell
Worship Leader
Neil is originally from England, graduating with a B.Sc. from the University of Glamorgan in Wales.  He is a Chartered Surveyor and has spent over 30 years in the construction industry on both sides of the Atlantic, most recently a business consultant.  He has written, recorded, released and performed music since 1976, and in 2003 he answered the call to the Worship ministry.  He is married with 5 grown children.

 

Support Staff

Judy Thompson
Office Administrator
Judy's gifts of administration, service and helps are greatly utilized in her position as Office Administrator. She is the "go-to" person in the office and related matters.  As a result she is the one who helps the Pastors and Ministry staff do their jobs well, which she loves to do.  Additionally she enjoys working on PowerPoint for Sunday morning worship.

Judy has been working at WVBC since September 10, 2001.  Judy is married to Gregg and they have 3 grown sons and for the most part are "empty-nesters."  Judy and Gregg recently became grandparents, a new joy!

 

Brenda Chow
Office Assistant
Brenda assists the Office Administrator and others whenever and wherever needed.  She originally volunteered in the office and in the early childhood area in the past before she started working in the office in September of 2006.

Brenda and her husband, Dennis, came to Canada from Hong Kong in 1987.  They have 2 children (ages 18 and 12).  They started coming to WVBC in January 2002.

Leanne Roy
Church Facilities Administrator
Leanne has been involved with WVBC since 1977.  Leanne is currently acting in voluntary positions as facilities administrator, on the building committee as well as being on the worship team playing the keyboards and organ.  In the past, she has been on the church staff, first as organist and then choir director for 20 years.  She has also been on the church Council, served as Council Chair, chaired the facilities committee and organized adult education.

Leanne is an award winning retired North Vancouver music educator and was involved in music leadership at the provincial and national level.  Outside the church, she is the past President of the North Vancouver Canadian Federation of University Women, President for the Vancouver Women's Music Society and accompanist for the West Van Seniors' Choir.

 

Lynn Colpitts
Wedding/Funeral Church Liaison
Lynn is responsible for the coordination of weddings and funerals held at WVBC.  Due to her able attention to all things great and small, the results are gratifying to all involved.

Lynn and her husband, Ross, have been at WVBC for many years and raised their children as part of the congregation.  Now that they are "empty nesters," she is able to devote more time to teaching aspiring artists.

 

Council Members

Phil Dougan
Chair
Phil Dougan and his family have been at WVBC since the late 1990's when they first came to the North Shore and Phil was hired as the Youth Pastor at our church.

Phil became a lawyer in May 2008.  Phil and his wife Pam have seven children between the ages of 16 to 2 years.  Before coming to West Vancouver, Pam and Phil have been in many vocations, countries, and life experiences, but have always been involved in the Church.  Phil is a preacher's kid and was raised in the UK.  He emigrated to Canada in 1984 and has a BA from Trinity Western, an LLB from UBC and as a young man, he received the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award from Prince Philip.

 

Virginia Jack
Vice-Chair
Virginia Jack Bell has been attending WVBC for over 30 years.  She enoys serving on the worship team with her family, singing harmony and playing percusion ocassionally.  She also hosts a Tuesday night inter-generational weekly Bible study at the church, helps to plan the yearly church camp and sponsors young adult group along with her husband Neil.  She has been a part of Stephen Minstry, Women in Touch and worked with children and youth.

She is married with five children in their teens through twenties and helps run her family's business as well as a retreat house in Whistler.  This is Virginia's second term on Council.

 

Paul Dunkin
Treasurer

Paul has been attending West Vancouver Baptist Church since 1996 and has been a member of a home group since that time.

Paul has worked as a CGA for over twenty years and is currently with a North Vancouver firm.  He and his wife Janet have raised 3 children and are now enjoying being empty nesters!  Lately they have been spending plenty of time with their new granddaughter.  In his spare time Paul enjoys cycling, curling, photography and golf.

Al Bueckert 
Council Member 
Al previously served as Treasurer upon his election to Council in February 2006.  He has also been active in other capacities such as being an usher for the services.  He has worked in the financial markets as a broker, advisor, and consultant with a background in agricultural economics.

Al and his wife Christine have attended WVBC since 1982.  They were married in 1977 and moved to the North Shore in 1989.  Kimberly, their daughter and only child, was born in 1989.  For the past 10 years they have enjoyed participating in the same home group, which has become their extended family.  He enjoys the outdoors, especially biking, hiking and skiing. 

 

Ross Dutcher
Council Member
Ross and his wife Marion became members of WVBC after moving to the North Shore from Vancouver fifteen years ago. They have two grown daughters. Ross is a retired  accountant who has been on Council previously, as Treasurer, and has also been involved with Home Groups for many years.

 

John Konrad
Moderator (Ex-officio Member)
John has served as moderator from 2001 to 2005 and is currently serving in the same capacity.  John and his wife Irmie have been home group leaders for over 10 years and are active in the hospitality ministry of our church.

John is a retired management consultant with a professional engineering degree and MBA.  Prior to retirement he was the Senior Partner (Canada) for the consulting arm of Price Waterhouse Coopers.

 

Raymond Fung
Council Member
Raymond and his family have been attending West Vancouver Baptist for over 13 years.  This is Raymond's second time serving on council.  He is a member of the youth task force and previously was on the pastoral search committee.  As well, he and his wife have been a part of the Chinese ministry leadership since its inception 8 years ago.

 

Werner Pankratz 
Council Member
WVBC has been Werner's church home for about a quarter of a century.  Over the years they have been blest to be a truly intergenerational church family with our children and grandchildren worshipping with us.  God has blessed richly through many years of involvement with Young Life on the North Shore as well as nationally.  The desire is to be part of a church team seeking to intentionally live out our mission and vision 24/7.
