The Five Love Languages
(based on the book by Dr. Gary Chapman)

*      Do you feel unloved by your spouse?

*      Would you like to know how to achieve a loving relationship that lasts?

*      If you are single, would you like to better connect with others in your life?

*      If you are dating, is it going as well as it could be?

*      Would you like to communicate more effectively with others?

*      Have you ever considered leaving your spouse?

For Married Couples:  In the Five Love Languages DVD, Dr. Gary Chapman, marriage and relationship counselor for over 35 years, shares the secret to marital love that lasts, once the honeymoon is over.  Learn the philosophy behind The Five Love Languages and how to apply these principles to your relationship.  Dr. Chapman offers tips to better express your spouse’s love language so you can provide each other with exactly what’s needed to be fulfilled emotionally.

For Everyone:  According to Dr. Chapman, there are only five fundamental ways to express love emotionally.  People characteristically express love by extending their own ‘love language’ onto another and this is when communication breakdown can happen.  In many relationships individuals do not speak the same love language, often resulting in empty ‘love tanks’.  But you can learn how to change that.

The Program:  Each week we will view a DVD, which will be followed by group discussion.  You will learn to identify your own primary love language.  Then you will enjoy discovering the love language of the people in your life: your parents, children, siblings, friends, co-workers.  Whatever the relationship, having a full love tank allows you to experience the joy of connecting, expressing love and truly feeling loved in return.

Join us for three Wednesdays (7:00-9:00 pm) to learn all this, and more…  The cost is $25 (no refunds) and will include the book, a workbook and various handouts.  In order to secure your spot, payment has to be in the office by March 4.  Class size is limited and based on first-come, first-served.  Don’t be disappointed –

DIVORCED?Pic 1 - DC.jpgSEPARATED?

YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO THROUGH DIVORCE OR SEPARATION ALONE

Are you hurting from the pain of separation or divorce and need care?  Confused about your feelings?  Feeling lost and alone?  Divorce Care is a support group with caring facilitators that have experienced the pain of Divorce.  Most importantly you’ll learn how to deal with the pain of the past and look forward to building your life.

Divorce Care has 3 parts:

  • Video - Divorce Care is a non-denominational program which features 30 minute videos which open up areas that many people have never considered.  The video presenters are top psychologists - a capability that would have been impossible for us to emulate ourselves.  The personal stories by many who have gone through the program bring reality home.  Some of the topics:

- Facing your Anger

- Facing your Depression and Loneliness

- Forgiveness

- Kidcare

- New Relationships – When are you ready?

  • Support Group - A confidential group whereby you can interact, learn from others and share your own story.  Many say this is the most important part.

  • Bible Based Study - this optional study taken from the workbook brings words of comfort and encouragement along the path.

Where:   West Vancouver Baptist Church

When:     Tuesdays, 7pm - 9pm

A – Anyone can come!  Anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith is invited to attend!  People from other religions and atheists have expressed positive comments about the Alpha course because they are not judged or pressured to make a decision.  Alpha can also be used as a refresher course for Christians.

L – Learning & laughter!  We believe it is possible to learn about the Christian faith and to enjoy the experience.  Laughter and fun are a key part of the course as they contribute to breaking down barriers and enabling everyone to relax together.

P – Pasta (or any other great food)!  Eating together gives people the chance to get to know each other and to develop friendships.  Mealtime is casual and friendly; finding out commonalities and mutual interests.

H – Helping one another!  Small groups are a place for everyone to share their opinion, to ask questions, to discuss Nicky’s talks, to receive prayer if requested, and for people to know they are cared for.

A – Ask anything!  Alpha is a place where no question is regarded as too simple or too hostile.  People are free to ask relevant questions and to give their opinions even if they oppose the views expressed in Nicky’s talks.
