Thanks to everyone who participated in the diaper drive for the Harvest Project in honour of Fathers Day!

We wish to acknowledge and pray for those in our congregation who are graduating from high school, university or another training program.  We want to celebrate alongside our grads on Sunday, June 28.  Please contact Jane Sidjak if you or someone you know is celebrating an achievement.

In case you did not hear the announcement on Sunday, we want to thank everyone who sent in the ballots for our online annual meeting.  The response was high.  All motions were passed.  Nominees have been elected to the Council and to our Nominating Committee.  May they sense the Lord’s blessing as they serve.

Important News:
Thank you, too, for the participation of everyone in the online survey regarding our response to the coronavirus.  We received very helpful feedback both in the responses to the survey questions and in your comments.  Many of us are eager to meet again; yet the note of caution about taking steps that would invite an outbreak of the coronavirus among us was even more pronounced.

Council has passed two motions this week:
First, they have empowered the staff to create a safety plan by which small groups can begin to access the church buildings.  Consistent sanitation under the watchful eye of our custodian, will take place after each meeting.  The group sizes will be regulated on our campus so we are able to maintain a high level of sanitation.  This limitation may change the times or ways in which we met previously.  The new safety protocols will be available in a few days, at which time we will advise small groups that wish to return to the church campus.

The opening of the church buildings for small group use is subject to reconsideration if the health situation deteriorates in the community around us (as it is doing in parts of the world as I write, though not in British Columbia) or if groups choose not to follow the protocols that are adopted.  We request your patience as we try to navigate the many uncertainties and emotions among us at this time.

The second motion of Council was to choose Sunday, September 13 as the date for our first service back in the sanctuary.  It will be subject to safety protocols including a maximum of 49 people, according to public health standards.  The expectation is we will plan to start with one service so we can figure out the logistics before increasing to 2 sanctuary services.  The fall plan will be published, and will be subject to revision according to the public health situation in BC.

We will keep our weekly live Zoom services going throughout the summer.  We plan to continue with the live Zoom in the fall, plus a recording of the service on the church website.

I am so appreciative of everyone’s patience as we have learned, by trial and error, how to shift our ministry during this unusual time.  This patience has meant a lot to those of us on staff and in volunteer leadership roles as we navigate these challenges together.

Thank you!
Pastor Axel
