Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is one of the most pressing and controversial issues of our day. The Council of West Vancouver Baptist Church invites you to become informed and give input into actions that we can all take to protect the vulnerable. Join us for an interactive session that will feature video highlights of talks by Dr. Margaret Cottle, a Palliative Care physician in Vancouver, and a clinical assistant professor at the University of BC, in the Division of Palliative Care in the Faculty of Medicine.

Saturday, June 3, 9:30-11:30 am, Fireside Room.

The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada has developed a Statement opposing the adoption of Bill C-7 which extends the option for "medical termination" to people with mental illness. The Statement has been signed by Rob Ogilvie Executive Minister of Canadian Baptists of Western Canada. The Statement begins with these words:

"We lament hastened death in Canada. We grieve the expansion in law that has made those whose death is not reasonably foreseeable eligible for hastened death, and that soon will include people with mental illness as their only underlying medical condition."

The statement in its entirety can be found HERE.

Other organizations, including individual churches, are encouraged to concur with the statement and take appropriate action.
