Introduction to John - Overview of God's Gospel

John doesn't just want to give us an account of Jesus' life.  He wants to persuade us that Jesus is God's long-awaited Messiah.

John wrote His gospel as an apologetic to prove this conviction.

  1. John underscores the deity of Jesus Christ
    • "In the beginning..."
  2. John's account of Jesus' life is not chronological
    • He's out to prove that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God
      • I am the bread of life
      • I am the light of the world
      • I am the door for the sheep
      • I am the good shepherd
      • I am the resurrection and the life
      • I am the way, the truth, the life
      • I am the true vine
