Life in the Spirit

Pentecost is when the church remembers the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit that inaugurated the new faith community.

This outpouring came on suddenly, unexpectedly, precipitated by Jesus leaving them.

The healing of the lame man at the temple gate got Peter and John into a heap of trouble with the priests and the Sadducees. They were questioned by the priest, rulers, elders, and teachers of the law: "By what power or what name did you do this?"

Note that the religious leaders were astonished at their boldness.

After repeated threats, Peter and John were allowed to leave.  They went to the disciples to report what happened.

Take a look at the effect their report had on the disciples.  What did they do?

They raised their voices together in prayer to God

      • They were thankful
      • They were encouraged

While we wait on the Lord, let us:

  1. encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today" (Hebrews 3:13a)
  2. let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and do good deeds (Hebrews 10:24)

Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also doing.

Thessalonians 5:11
