The Call Of God

The Call of God

Outline

  1. Telling Stories
  2. Why Telling Stories?
    • Sally Loyd-Jones, in her famous children's Bile, the Jesus Storybook, wrote, "The Bible is most of all a story. It's an adventure story about a young hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure.  It's a love story about a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne, and everything, to rescue the one he loves.  It's like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life."
  3. Can we notice the similarities between our stories and those in the Bible? Or notice the differences?  Can we realize how our stories connect to those in the Bible?
  4. The story of the boy Samuel
    • Key Words
      • Hear; did God speak to people everywhere at that time? No.  According to the book of Exodus, God spoke to people in only two places
        1. There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the covenant law.  I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites
        2. For the generations to come, this burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord.  There I will meet you and speak to you
      • Your word is a lamp for my feet, and light on my path
        1. A person can hear the call of God, whether he knows the Lord or not
      • Here; How did Samuel respond when he heard the call of God?  He replied, "Here I am."
        1. As we live in this world, the most important thing is not to recognize that "I am here;" the most important thing is to recognize that God is here
      • Wait; the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature and in favour with the Lord and with people
  5. Can we realize how our stories connect to his story?
