Filling of the Spirit as Special Enablement
The book of Acts is the story of how the Holy Spirit enables ordinary people to do extraordinary things for God.
Being filled with the Spirit isn't a once and for all experience. The same people were filled with the Spirit over and over again.
What are the many different ways the Holy Spirit impacts our lives:
- He gives us spiritual gifts - 1 Corinthians12:4-11
- He draws us to Christ - John6:24
- He transforms our lives - Galatians 5:22-23
- He guides us into truth - John14:25-26
- He empowers us to worship - Ephesians5:18-25
- He intercedes for us - Romans 8:26-27
- He gives us spiritual gifts - 1 Corinthians12:4-11
Throughout the book of Acts the phrase "to be filled with the Spirit" is used over and over again. It is always associated with mission.
So what applications can we make to the church today?
- we are never alone. God never leaves us
- we need to slow down and learn to wait and listen
The expansion of God's Kingdom in our world rests on God's shoulders. So we pray:
- May Your Kingdom come
- May Your will be done
We are in partnership with God, but He is the senior partner.
