Pastor's Message - Pastor Bob Bahr

On Sunday, February 5, I plan to begin a series of studies on the Gospel of St. John.  This study will take us through Easter and include the Lent season, which begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22. and ends on the Saturday before Easter on April 8.

In his gospel, John doesn’t follow a chronological order of the life of Christ.  Rather, he gives us seven snapshots (signs) from the life of Christ which are designed to prove that Jesus is the Messiah the Son of the living God.

John states his purpose in writing in John 20: 31:

"But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Over the next few weeks, I want to take time to reflect on each of these seven signs or miracles one by one:

  • The turning of the water into wine
  • The healing of the nobleman's son
  • The healing of the crippled man
  • The feeding of the five thousand
  • The healing of the blind man
  • The raising of Lazarus
  • The death and resurrection of Jesus

I encourage you to read through John’s gospel in preparation for this series of messages.

I will reflect on John Chapter 1 this Sunday.  Notice the similarity between this chapter and Genesis 1.  What is St. John trying to teach us?

May God’s love and grace fill you with hope and strength in the coming days.
